“Elf-Arrows were arrowheads of flint used in hunting and war by the aborigines of the British Isles and of Europe generally, as they still are among native people elsewhere. Elf-Arrows derived their name from the folklore belief that they were used by the Elves to kill cattle and sometimes human beings in their mischief-joy. Also called ‘pixie arrows’, according to British folklore.

Elf-Arrows were sometimes worn as amulets, occasionally set in silver, as a charm against witchcraft.”

“Beneath you birch with silver bark
And boughs so pendulous and fair,
The brook falls scattered down the rock:
and all is mossy there.”

Quoted from Samuel Taylor Coleridge (poet, critic, philosopher)

References to Silver and its popularity in myth, legend, and poetic prose appear everywhere.  Imagine if there was not story of Robin Hood and the Silver Arrow, no Lone Ranger and his trusty horse Silver, no silver bullets to vanquish the werewolves ?

The simple fact of the matter is that silver impacts on our lives day in day out, even if we don’t recognise it in its true form, just have a think on it awhile and I bet you can come up with a list of things around you right now that have their origins in silver.

Just to give you an example of two:

  1. Silver is used in clothing to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. It keeps odor to a minimum and reduces the risk of bacterial and fungal infection.
  2. Small devices such as hearing aids and watches commonly use Silver oxide batteries due to their long life and high energy/weight ratio. Another usage are high-capacity silver-zinc and silver-cadmium batteries.

To sum up, silver is all around us, and yet it is very hard to come by in its pure form, and is extremely expensive.  So whats better than a home working oppoprtunity selling a precious metal that has so many uses and that will still have a monetry long after all the banks have gone into melt down and we need our very own silversnowball!

The term “silver bullet” has been adopted into a general metaphor, where it refers to any straightforward solution perceived to have extreme effectiveness. The phrase typically appears with an expectation that some new technology or practice will easily cure a major prevailing problem.

This info was taken direct from Wikipedia.org (follow the links for more details):

“Silver, in the form of electrum (a gold-silver alloy), was coined to produce money in around 700 BC by the Lydians. Later, silver was refined and coined in its pure form. Many nations used silver as the basic unit of monetary value. In the modern world, silver bullion has the ISO currency code XAG. The name of the United Kingdom monetary unit “pound” (£) reflects the fact that it originally represented the value of one troy pound of sterling silver. In the 1800s, many nations, such as the United States and Great Britain, switched from silver to a gold standard of monetary value, then in the 20th century to fiat currency.”
